A great view of Melbourne without a view of the MCG

A great view of Melbourne without a view of the MCG

We went on the Melbourne Star yesterday.

It’s a great trip.

Sunny day.

Great views.

A very well thought out map that aligned with a compass on the ceiling of the gondola that made it very easy to figure out where stuff was.

The wheel goes up towards the west – so you’re seeing the vast plains of flatness while the thrill is still new.

The thrill of the ride forgives the flatness of this view.

The thrill of the ride forgives the flatness of this view.

And the great views of the city on the second half of the ride, so you don’t notice so much that the thrill of going in a huge circle is waning.

The view keeps getting better

The view keeps getting better

One thing that didn’t gel with everything else.

They had a pre-recorded tour guide.

Nicely worded.

Well-spoken.

Polite.

But.

The first place the nice voice man bought our attention to was East Melbourne and the MCG. Which is in exactly the opposite direction from where we were looking.

Out of sight.

Behind the city.

For the entire ride.

Oops.

The view looking backwards through the Star

Which made me wonder.

How many businesses try and keep us engaged with stuff that kind of fits with the business, but in the end, just reminds us of what the business isn’t?

Be proud of what you do.

Whatever you offer is amazing. Why draw the customer’s attention to the great things you can’t deliver?
